Australian born Paul White, one of Australia’s highly regarded and awarded dance artists has been living in Germany since 2011. Until 2017, he was employed by Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, as the first dancer to join the company after Bausch’s death. Paul only appears now as a guest in Bausch’s works and has returned to life as a freelance artist.
His twenty year long career history as a performer and artistic collaborator includes working with companies and directors; Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, Lloyd Newson (DV8 Physical Theatre), Tanja Liedtke, Nigel Jamieson and Garry Stewart (Australian Dance Theatre), Narelle Benjamin, Kristina Chan, Martin Del Amo, Danzahoy.
Paul is in high demand as a teacher and collaborator and also extends his skills and interests to the development of short film festivals and yoga practice. Paul is the Honorary Patron of Tanzrauschen Wuppertal, a dance-on-film society founded in Wuppertal, and is a founding member of the Free Arts Scene Society, Wuppertal Germany. He is the recipient of eight national and international awards for his performance and choreographic work. (Australian Dance Awards, Helpmann Awards, Tänzer des Jahres, UK Critics Circle award)
In recent years, he worked as Assistant Choreographer to Meryl Tankard for Cinderella on Leipzig Oper Ballet, and toured The Oracle to dance festivals in Australia, France, Holland, Switzerland, the U.K. and the U.S.A. He has performed the multi-award winning Anatomy of an Afternoon (Martin del Amo & Paul White) in the Sydney Festival at the Sydney Opera House and London Southbank Centre. In July 2017 he premiered a new work Cella (Narelle Benjamin & Paul White) in Colours International Festival, Stuttgart presented also at the 2018 Sydney Festival. In the last years Paul has managed a number of Tanja Liedtke Foundation initiatives in Germany, offered dance and theatre training in professional or tertiary institutions worldwide, and is now a co-leader of the Landmark Worldwide Wisdom Unlimited program and international personal and professional growth, training, and development company.
